Let’s wear masks. (And if you make them let me know)
April 4, 2020
The CDC is now recommending that everyone wear cloth masks in situations where social distancing is difficult.
Wearing masks will help reduce spread from non-symptomatic people who are infected and not aware.
That means. That means .
Here is the advice of the CDC.
CDC recommends wearing cloth face coverings in public settings where other social distancing measures are difficult to maintain (e.g., grocery stores and pharmacies) especially in areas of significant community-based transmission.
Masks aren’t easy to get yet, but there are options that you can make at home that do not require a sewing machine; search “no sew mask.”
If you have the ability to make masks, whether as an individual or as part of a group or as a local company, please contact me (Councilmember.Riemer@montgomerycountymd.gov) so that we can better coordinate our local and small scale manufacturing community. Please include your name, email address, phone number, manufacturing ability, and manufacturing needs.
That includes both cloth masks and 3d printed face shields. If you have 3d printing capability please let me know. We are organizing to print face shields for first responders.
To be clear, staying home is still our best defense. But wearing a cloth mask is a good idea when you have to be around other people.
